Martin Roedolf
Modular Synthesis

modulations

Martin Roedolf is a Dutch modular artist whose work explores the shifting boundaries between experimental music and sound art. Using modular synthesis as his primary medium, he creates sonic landscapes that oscillate between structure and chaos, intention and randomness.

His practice centers on sound as both a physical and emotional experience, shaping frequencies, textures, and rhythms into evolving narratives and musical environments. Roedolf's work often intersects electronic music, avant-garde experimentation, and nature's influence, frequently filtered through biofeedback.

Through live performances and studio-based experimentation, he delves into the fragility of perception and the ways in which sound can dissolve conventional forms. Roedolf's art questions the distinctions between noise and music, composition and improvisation, presence and absenceinviting audiences to redefine their relationship with sound and experience.

biofeedback

My work explores the hidden processes of nature and how they can be translated into sound. Using biofeedback and sensor technology, I capture subtle electrical signals from living organisms like plants and trees and convert them into control voltage to interact with my modular synthesizers.

This creates a direct exchange between nature, technology, and sound.

These signals, often responses to light, touch, moisture or time, become the raw material for

a sonic dialogue a constantly shifting interplay between human, machine, and environment.

It’s an intuitive and organic process, always evolving.

While plants sometimes take an active role in my compositions, they’re not always the starting point. My work is driven by a curiosity for what usually goes unheard  and a desire to shape new worlds from those invisible forces.
